MS Language Survey Results
The results of the World Language Survey to parents are in. Eighty Five adults responded to the online survey that was posted on the regional website, the Ayer-Shirley Regional School District Facebook page and distributed via email. Of those who responded to the question on prioritizing Spanish and French. 80% chose Spanish and 20% chose French. This is different than the responses received from the students on the same question. Students voted nearly 50% for each. In the second question of the survey, parents were asked to rank a subset of foreign languages in order of importance as an offering in the schools. In that survey, Spanish was ranked most important, followed by French, Italian and German. Chinese and Japanese wer both placed last in order of importance. Now that the results are in, Interim Regional Superintendent and Director of Curriculum Instruction, Mary Beth Hamel, will work with the middle school administration to schedule and provide the program of language study that is desired. Their challenge is to find instructors with the right set of skills to be able to deliver instruction in both Spanish and French. We hope that this type of survey is the beginning of a series of getting parent feedback on school programs and curriculum. We know parents care about the course of study and we want to give them an opportunity to share their opinion. |
